Alan Shearer reacts to Anthony Gordon message amid Newcastle exit whispers

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has reacted to Anthony Gordon’s latest post as rumours circulate that the forward could leave St James’ Park.

Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton for £45million in 2023 and has become a key player for Eddie Howe during his time on Tyneside.

The 24-year-old’s performances for the Toon have sparked interest from other Premier League clubs.

In a Football Insider exclusive, Liverpool were told it would take at least £75m to prize Gordon away from Newcastle.

Gordon’s displays have earned him 10 England caps and he could be in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad next summer.

Gordon post liked by Newcastle legend

The Premier League’s record goal scorer and Newcastle legend, Alan Shearer, has liked a post by Gordon amid the forward’s uncertain future.

Shearer spent 10 seasons at the club, scoring 206 goals and is immortalised by the fanbase.

Gordon shared pictures of himself enjoying a day out at Wimbledon before he is expected to report back for pre-season training.

The Toon will embark on a tour of Singapore and South Korea, facing rivals Arsenal and Tottenham, before Premier League action returns.

Newcastle will take tough transfer stance

Football Insider verdict

Gordon has cemented himself as one of the first players on Howe’s team sheet such is his importance for Newcastle.

His direct wing play and ability to score and assist helped the Toon win their first trophy in 70 years back in March and qualify for the Champions League next season.

Gordon’s Newcastle record

Like striker Alexander Isak, Newcastle will only allow Gordon to leave if a big money offer arrives which they cannot refuse.

Howe though is looking to strengthen his squad in a bid to compete on all four fronts next season and convince players like Gordon that they do not need to move anywhere if they want to be successful.

PSR limited Newcastle’s impact on the transfer market last summer, but the club could have £200m to spend in this window.

Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini, Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford and Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga would be the dream trio of signings for the club.

Howe is only looking up the table and wanting to improve on their fifth placed finish.
