Alan Shearer reacts to Anthony Gordon’s message at Newcastle
Alan Shearer has responded after Anthony Gordon’s message to Newcastle United fans following the dramatic 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The former Everton winger was unable to add to his goal tally at St James’ Park on 23 February, with Alexander Isak, Jacob Murphy and Lewis Miley sealing the win.
Despite the opener coming from Callum Hudson-Odoi, and a late fightback from Nikola Milenkovic and Ryan Yates, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were forced to walk away with nothing.
Showing the world his talents once again, it is clear why the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal are so interested in Isak, almost overshadowing Gordon’s work on the left flank.
With six goals and five assists in the Premier League this season, it has been a relatively quiet campaign for the 24-year-old, yet he was integral to the victory at the weekend.
Alan Shearer a huge fan of Anthony Gordon as Newcastle win
Taking to Instagram [23 February], Gordon celebrated all three points with images of himself and his teammates, with the caption: “Back to winning ways.”
Shearer replied with four clapping emojis and also liked the post, clearly enjoying the victory himself.
Eddie Howe’s one step closer to Premier League aspirations
One of the top priorities this season, alongside reaching further in the FA Cup and lifting the EFL Cup against Liverpool, will be qualifying for the Champions League.
Following their 4-3 win against Forest, the Magpies are level on points with fourth-place Man City, who could soon be without Pep Guardiola once the 2025/26 campaign rolls around.
Premier League standings | Points |
3. Nottingham Forest | 47 |
4. Man City | 44 |
5. Newcastle | 44 |
6. Bournemouth | 43 |
7. Chelsea | 43 |
With remaining league matches against Liverpool, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Arsenal, the battle for the top four spots is truly heating up, and Howe will be hoping his side can grab one of the spaces.
It has already been suggested that Newcastle could face multiple star exits without Champions League football next season, which would be a huge setback to what is being built at St James’ Park.
