Alan Shearer reacts to Bruno Guimaraes’ message after Newcastle announcement

Bruno Guimaraes caught the attention of club legend Alan Shearer following a brand-new announcement from Newcastle United.

The Brazilian has been instrumental in the Magpies’ charge for a Champions League spot, with their hopes of qualifying for the competition all coming down to the final day of the Premier League season.

Eddie Howe‘s side are set to face Everton at St James Park on Sunday, 25 May, with all three points confirming a spot in the Champions League, whether the sides around them win or lose.

Football Insider understands that Newcastle are confident of keeping Guimaraes this summer with qualification, but there remain question marks over his future due to interest.

Recent signs point to the midfield maestro staying at St James’ Park, especially after being the face of the club’s new kit announcement ahead of next season.

Taking to Instagram (23 May), Guimaraes wrote: “Howay the lads,” showing off the brand-new Newcastle kit ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, gaining plenty of attention online.

Alan Shearer was joined by the likes of Joelinton, Jacob Murphy, Lewis Miley, and Joe Willock, as well as Bournemouth‘s Evanilson, in liking the player’s post.

Eddie Howe relying on Champions League football ahead of brutal summer transfer window

Football Insider verdict

Multiple of the Magpies’ biggest stars have been linked with exits this summer, including Nick Pope, Tino Livramento, Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, and even Anthony Gordon.

Football Insider understands that Newcastle are more confident of keeping Alexander Isak with Champions League football, despite interest from Arsenal and Liverpool recently.

3. Man City+2668
4. Newcastle United+2266
5. Chelsea+2066
6. Aston Villa+966
7. Nottingham Forest+1365

Of course, defeat to the Toffees on the final day leaves the club susceptible to dropping out of the top-five spots in quite dramatic fashion, but a run of just two losses in 10 games suggests that will not happen.

The Magpies have been held to draws in their last two meetings with the Merseysiders, but if Howe is to keep his most important stars, they must take proceedings into their own hands rather than rely on others.

With the Carabao Cup under their belt already, Howe’s side have shown what they can achieve with the backing of the owners at St James’ Park, so the summer transfer window should be a fun one for the Magpies.
