Alan Shearer reveals the ‘huge advantage’ Arsenal have over Liverpool and Man City

Arsenal have a major advantage over both Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League title race according to Alan Shearer.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been in supreme form in recent times, and are now firm favourites to win the league.

Eberechi Eze scored the only goal as Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Sunday (26 October) to move four points clear at the top of the table.

The Gunners have kept a clean sheet in each of their last five games across all competitions, meaning they have gone through the whole of October without conceding a goal so far.

Arsenal have hidden ability

Arsenal have now won nine out of their last ten games, and have still only conceded three goals in the Premier League this season.

It feels as if Arteta’s side have gone to a completely new level this term, after a number of big signings in the summer.

Speaking on the Rest is Football Podcast, former Newcastle United striker Shearer revealed that Arsenal’s ability to grind out results even when they are not playing well is giving them a massive advantage.

He said: “Arsenal are in the driving seat now because of their ability to just win a game, even when they don’t play particularly well. That’s the huge advantage they have over Liverpool and Man City, and whoever else thinks they can challenge for the title.

“Because of their set-pieces, because of their resilience, and because of their squad, because of how good they are at the back. That’s why they have such a clear lead right now.”

Sources say that talks between the club and the player are progressing well, with Saka likely to pen a new contract in the upcoming period.

It could make him the highest-ever paid player at the north London club, with his wages expected to rise to over £300,000 per week.
