Albert Sambi Lokonga could quit Arsenal after agent phone call revealed – expert

Albert Sambi Lokonga could leave Arsenal next year in search of regular game time.

That is the view of former Gunners and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 22-year-old’s future in north London.

Lokonga has been a bit-part player for Mikel Arteta’s side in the 2022-23 campaign.

Speaking to La Derniere Heure, via the Evening Standard (19 October), the centre-midfielder revealed he “almost snapped” at the end of last season.

He added that he called his agent and questioned whether he should stay at the London club, or leave in search of first-team football.

Lonkonga has four years remaining on his contract at the Emirates.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Campbell said: “There is potential for that.

“He may look to leave. The key to everything is the fit. If Sambi Lokonga wants to start then he has to leave Arsenal because he is not starting right now.

“He is a young player though so right now, it is about being a valued member of the squad and improving.

“Listen, Granit Xhaka is hitting levels that we have never seen. If Xhaka is hitting those levels, the younger ones beneath him have to get up to his level.

“Unfortunately, Sambi is going to have to bide his time. He has to take his opportunities when they come. That is the difference.”
