Alderweireld delivers update on Tottenham future, dismisses reported contract stall
By Derek Smithson
Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed that he is still waiting for a contract offer, but fully expects to still be at the club next season.
The 28-year-old is one of few senior players not to agree a new deal with Spurs in the past 12 months and is considered one of their most crucial players.
The Daily Mail have reported that Alderweireld was in contract talks with the north London club, but negotiations had stalled as he was seeking a £110,000-a-week deal.
However, the Belgium international has dismissed the speculation and explained that he is still waiting for a fresh proposal from Spurs.
“I’m still waiting for a contract proposal, but in my mind I’m playing for Spurs next season,” Alderweireld told Sky Sports. “There is no talk now, so it’s all rumours, because if there’s no talk there’s no rejection as well. We will see in the future how it will go.”

Alderweireld is regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League and has become a firm favourite with Spurs fans since his arrival in 2015.
The centre-back is still under contract until 2020 and supporters will be hoping he can agree a new deal to extend his stay.
He has become a mainstay in the defence under Mauricio Pochettino and has a great partnership alongside compatriot Jan Vertonghen.
Alderweireld is very confident in possession, a great one-on-one tackler, and a leader for the Spurs defence.
