Alderweireld names three Tottenham players as important as Kane

By Harry Sykes

Toby Alderweireld has identified three Tottenham stars who are as important to the team as talisman Harry Kane.

Spurs have had a mixed start to the season but managed to secure their first Wembley win in the Champions League with Wednesday’s impressive 3-1 win against Borussia Dortmund.

A Harry Kane double and an early striker from Heung-Min Son, couple with a sturdy defensive display, helped Tottenham overcome a fine Dortmund team who totally dominated possession.

Kane took his club tally to the season to four goals, all of which came in four days after a barren August, which has enhanced the school of thought that the north Londoners’ chances of success precisely mirror the forward’s goal gluts.

However, Belgium international Alderweireld maintained there is far more to Tottenham than the England striker.

“He’s our striker of course but I think we have enough quality from different people,” the defender explained in an interview with talkSPORT.

“Like you saw Son, then you have Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, a lot of players can make the difference.

“Of course we are very happy that Harry is scoring, and doing very well, but there is more threat from us than only the striker, so that’s important as well.”

Spurs have accumulated seven points from their opening four Premier League matches of the season and are back in action domestically on Saturday evening, when they host Swansea City at Wembley.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team begin the weekend in fifth, while the visitors are in 14th.

Spurs will welcome back Alli to the team after he was suspended in midweek for the clash against Dortmund due to a ban carried over from last season.
