Aldridge: Klopp must recall Mignolet after the international break
By Dominic Toner
John Aldridge believes that Simon Mignolet should be restored to the Liverpool side.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has opted to field goalkeeper Loris Karius in the club’s last three fixtures and left Mignolet on the bench.
Karius, 23, moved to Anfield in the summer and he was largely expected to replace the Belgian international as the club’s first choice goalkeeper until he broke his hand in pre-season.
Klopp has now had a good opportunity to judge both goalkeepers and has a huge decision to make after the international break, when they host Manchester United in the Premier League.
Ex-Liverpool striker Aldridge claims that Karius is still inexperienced and Mignolet should be the club’s number one.

“Loris Karius has been given his chance in the last three games, but on the evidence so far could you say he is better than Simon Mignolet?” Aldridge wrote in the Echo. “Karius is only a young lad. He’s going to need time and he has looked a bit nervy from what I’ve seen.
“Klopp said he would assess the goalkeeping situation during the international break having given both players an opportunity. And for me, I’d say while Karius could come good one day, Mignolet should be between the sticks at this moment in time”
Mignolet has been the club’s preferred goalkeeper since his arrival from Sunderland three years ago but has been criticised several times by fans in the past.
The 28-year-old has made several high-profile errors for the Reds and people have questioned his handling ability, but he does excel at shot stopping.
Mignolet has made 155 appearances for Liverpool and kept 49 clean sheets in those games.
Liverpool have been in impressive form in front of goal this season and forwards Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho have all been in top form.
The Merseyside club have yet to keep a clean sheet in any of their first seven league matches and will be keen for that to change.
