Alejandro Garnacho sends message to Bruno Fernandes after Man United heroics
Alejandro Garnacho had directed a message for Bruno Fernandes after the Manchester United captain’s stunning hat-trick in their latest Europa League triumph.
Man United put their disappointing 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad behind them with an emphatic 4-1 demolition job in the second leg, sealing their place in the quarter-finals.
Fernandes stole the show with a hat-trick, while Diogo Dalot also got on the scoresheet in a commanding performance.
However, the night didn’t start as smoothly for Ruben Amorim’s side. Real Sociedad took the lead when Mikel Oyarzabal converted from the penalty spot, but United responded just six minutes later with a penalty of their own—coolly dispatched by Fernandes.
Ex-PGMOL chief Keith Hackett later weighed in, stating both Real Sociedad and Man United penalties were correctly awarded.
However, controversy surrounded United’s second penalty, which gave them the lead, as Hackett believes Patrick Dorgu appeared to go down easily under contact.
Despite the debate, the referee pointed to the spot, and Fernandes made no mistake.
Garnacho, who was named in the starting XI, played a crucial role in the victory, providing the assist for Fernandes’ third goal as United cruised into the next round.
Bruno Fernandes hails Garnacho after crucial assist amid Man United fan criticism
Garnacho shared a message on social media following the victory, posting a photo with the Portuguese alongside the caption: “The main man. Quarter-finals next.”
The United captain responded in the comments, praising the young winger by saying: “What an assist” acknowledging Garnacho’s crucial contribution to sealing his hat-trick.
Several United players, including Harry Maguire and Diogo Dalot, also showed their support, liking the post.
However, the Argentine has found himself in the spotlight for off-field reasons recently. Garnacho faced criticism from Man United fans after a video surfaced of him seemingly ignoring a supporter before the first leg against Real Sociedad.
This, combined with ongoing transfer speculation, has added to the uncertainty around his future. Despite the noise, his performance on a big European night showed he remains focused on the team.

Manchester United weigh up Alejandro Garnacho’s future as goal drought continues
Despite Fernandes’ public backing, Garnacho’s form has raised concerns. The winger is now on a 24-game goal drought, and while he has provided assists, his finishing has been lacking.
Chelsea were linked with a move for Garnacho in the January transfer window, but with both Marcus Rashford and Antony departing on loan, United opted to keep him.
Having made 44 appearances this season, he remains an important figure in Amorim’s squad, but whether he remains a key part of the club’s plans beyond this season is yet to be seen.
