Alejandro Garnacho’s behind-the-scenes Chelsea deal revealed after Man United exit
Alejandro Garnacho agreed a behind-the-scenes deal with Chelsea before his move from Manchester United was confirmed.
Garnacho has now finalised his switch to Chelsea following weeks of speculation after it was made clear he would be leaving Old Trafford.
However, Football Insider revealed on 29 August Man United haven’t received the fee they wanted for Garnacho after sanctioning a cut-price move to Chelsea.
The deal is understood to be worth less than £40million, which is significantly lower than Man United’s initial £50million asking price.
Garnacho is yet to play this season after Ruben Amorim decided the winger wasn’t in his plans moving forward.

Chelsea could have pushed for £30m Alejandro Garnacho deal
This article contains exclusive comment from Stefan Borson, a former financial adviser to Man City.
Garnacho joined Man United’s academy from Atletico Madrid in 2020 before breaking into the first-team setup in 2022.
The 21-year-old registered 26 goals and 22 assists in 144 appearances during his five-year spell at Old Trafford.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “Bizarrely, I think in the end United have done okay on it.
“I think they created a situation where a lot of the value was impacted by their own actions. Ostracising him from the first team, telling him he had to go.
“All of this stuff was very public and made it very difficult for them to get value because they effectively set the market where he was definitely leaving, and they were definitely selling.
“Then I think from Garnacho’s perspective, he went and did a deal with Chelsea and said, I’m not moving anywhere else.
“So, in those circumstances to end up with £40million is actually quite an achievement because you could say, well, Chelsea could have just sat there until late on Monday and said we’ll give you £30million, what are you going to do about it?
“You are not going to keep him because you told the player you want him out.”

West Ham offered Andre Onana
In terms of another potential exit at Old Trafford, Football Insider exclusively revealed on 29 August West Ham have been offered Andre Onana on loan.
The Hammers have been told they can sign the 29-year-old if Man United are able to bring in a new goalkeeper before the transfer window closes at 7pm on Monday (1 September).
Onana’s only appearance of the campaign came in the penalty shoot-out defeat against Grimsby Town last week.
