Alex Iwobi reacts to Fulham teammate Andreas Pereira message after Wigan scare

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has reacted to his teammate Andreas Pereira on social media after they beat Wigan in the FA Cup.

Pereira started the game, and assisted the match-winner before being substituted in the 75th minute in a 2-1 win over Wigan (8 February).

Fulham began the match in the ascendancy, and capitalised on their dominance in the 23rd minute after Ryan Sessegnon found Rodrigo Muniz in the box, and the Brazilian nodded past Preston transfer target Sam Tickle.

The Whites were in complete control going into half-time, but following the interval, Jonny Smith hit a wonder-strike from outside the box to bring the Latics level.

Pereira then assisted Muniz with a lovely through ball, and Fulham would maintain their composure to seal their place in the FA Cup fifth round.

A major talking point in the match was a controversial clash between James Carragher and Pereira, which Keith Hackett exclusively told Football Insider, should have led to a punishment from the son of Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher.

Andreas Pereira happy with win over League One Wigan

Pereira posted a collection of photos from the win over Wigan on his Instagram, and captioned the post in his native Portuguese, saying: “Seguimos… +1”, which contextually translates to “We move… +1”.

The post was liked by a number of Pereira’s teammates, including Iwobi, Bernd Leno and Raul Jimenez.

Whilst not brought off the bench by Marco Silva, Willian was brought in on a free transfer, and was named in the match day squad.

Timothy Castagne was just one of a few regular first-team players playing against Wigan, as Fulham failed to sign a new right-back in January, despite eyeing up a number of targets.

Fulham show composure needed to win FA Cup

Having never won a major trophy in their history, Silva will have his eyes set on this years FA Cup as a chance to change that.

The club are also struggling to keep pace in the hunt for European qualification in the Premier League, and an FA Cup win would guarantee them a place in next year’s Europa League.

Whilst not the prettiest of wins, securing a result against Wigan, despite facing a mountain of pressure in the second-half, is exactly the sort of win that matters. One that you secure when not at your best.
