Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: Aston Villa in advanced talks to sign Liverpool star – sources
Aston Villa are in advanced talks to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Liverpool, sources have told Football Insider.
The Midlands giants are working on a deal for the versatile midfielder, 29, after completing the free transfer capture of Youri Tielemans.
Like the departing Leicester City star, Oxlade-Chamberlain is also available as a free agent when his Liverpool deal expires at the end of this month.
Villa have identified the former Arsenal and Southampton star as a key target who is proven in the Premier League and capable of slotting straight into their team.
Unai Emery is believed to be an admirer of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s versatility, dynamism and ability to create and score goals.
He struggled for game time at Anfield once again in the season just finished, accumulating just 13 appearances and 491 minutes in total across all competitions.
But the England international has made 235 Premier League appearances in his career, with 20 goals and 28 assists.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier on Monday, Napoli star Hirving Lozano has also been shortlisted as a top target by Villa’s recruitment team for this summer and they are lining up a move for him.
The wide forward is regarded as a matchwinner who can make an instant Premier League impact and there are suggestions he could be available for a move this summer.
Villa announced on Saturday they have reached an agreement to sign Tielemans and he will join on 1st July when his Leicester City contract expires.

It heralds the start of what is expected to be another major refurbishment of the senior squad this summer.
Emery has been told he will be backed by the club’s ambitious owners NSWE, led by Nassef Sawiris, with more than £150million expected to be spent on new players.
