Alexander Isak: Newcastle remain in dialogue over new contract
Newcastle United are in no panic about the contract situation of star striker Alexander Isak, sources have told Football Insider.
The striker’s camp has delayed talks over a new deal – reportedly amid concerns about the direction the club is heading.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe weighed in on the saga over the weekend to tell Isak, 25, to “focus on football”.
He added: “It’s slightly complex. We have to be really careful regarding our spending. It’s not a clearcut situation with Alex. We love him and are desperate for him to stay for many years and score loads and loads of goals, but I don’t see a short-term issue with his contract.”
Sources say dialogue remains open between the club and Isak’s representatives but full focus is currently on getting the Sweden international back firing on the pitch after early-season injury problems.
Newcastle not panicked about Isak contract standoff
The forward’s current deal runs until June 2028 and Newcastle are relaxed about his future despite the signals sent out to fans by the stalling of renewal discussions.
Isak has scored twice and contributed one assist in eight games across league and cup this term.
He has recently returned to action after a foot injury which kept him out for two top-flight games.

The 25-year-old, who joined Newcastle for a reported fee of around £60million, hit 25 goals in 40 games across all competitions last season.
He signed a six-year deal upon his arrival in 2022 which is yet to be extended.
