Alexander Isak to feature, £40m star set for bench – Five late Premier League signings who could make debuts this weekend

Alexander Isak was joined by a host of big names to move to a new Premier League club late in the transfer window, meaning we’re yet to see them play for their new employers.

With the Premier League’s transfer deadline falling after the final game before the international break plenty of newly signed players have had to wait two weeks before making their debuts for their new sides.

While certain big names like Matheus Cunha, Viktor Gyokeres and Florian Wirtz have made runouts for their new clubs, some huge names have spent the last two weeks waiting in the wings.

With the Premier League starting up again on 13 September, these are five of the biggest names who are set to make an appearance for their new sides.

Alexander Isak – Liverpool

Isak secured a record breaking deadline day move worth £125million, that saw the Swede swap Newcastle for Liverpool.

The saga of Isak’s move to Liverpool rumbled on throughout the summer transfer window and looked increasingly less likely as the window went on.

Eventually, Isak was granted his wish by Newcastle to move to Liverpool, and the Swedish international now looks set to make his debut for Arne Slot’s side.

Liverpool travel to Burnley on Sunday, 14 September, with Isak expected to start on the bench, having only managed 25 minutes for Sweden across the last international break.

As Isak gets up to match speed for Slot’s side, Reds fans can expect to see him make is Anfield bow on Wednesday, 17 September as Liverpool welcome Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Xavi Simons – Tottenham Hotspur

After missing out on the signing of Eberechi Eze to North London rivals, Tottenham had to pivot quickly to other targets, eventually securing the exciting signature of Xavi Simons.

Simons joins Thomas Frank’s side in a deal worth £51m from RB Leipzig, and looks set to make his first Spurs appearance having played 78 minutes on international duty with the Netherlands.

With worrying injury updates from Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison over the international break, Frank will need Simons fit and firing to make an instant impact for his side.

Tottenham will travel across London to face West Ham United on Saturday evening, with Simons’ first possibly runout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium coming on Tuesday, 16 September at home to Villarreal.

Alejandro Garnacho – Chelsea

A move away from Manchester United was always expected for Alejandro Garnacho this summer, after the Argentine fell out with United boss Ruben Amorim.

The 21-year-old had to wait until 30 August to secure his move, but now Garnacho will face an uphill task to start for Enzo Maresca’s side after his £40m move.

Pedro Neto and Estevao have impressed at Stamford Bridge in the first three games of the Premier League season, while Jamie Gittens is also expecting minutes after his big move from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

With Cole Palmer due back from injury soon and Joao Pedro in stellar form to open the season, Garnacho won’t be guaranteed any game time by Maresca.

Chelsea face four away trips in their next four games starting with a trip to Brentford on Saturday, before a trip to Bayern Munich on Wednesday to kick off their Champions League campaign.

A mouthwatering return to Old Trafford on 20 September follows for Garnacho and Chelsea, before a trip to Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup in the following week.

Chelsea fans will have to wait until 27 September before they can see Garnacho in action, when the welcome Brighton and Hove Albion.

Yoane Wissa – Newcastle

Like Isak, Yoane Wissa was a name on the lips of most pundits across the country this summer for his well documented holdout at Brentford.

Wissa was finally allowed to complete his move to Newcastle on deadline day, moving for £55m to join Eddie Howe’s side.

Wissa joins new attacking signing Nick Woltemade, and the two are both set to appear at St James’ Park for the first time on Saturday against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wissa brings proven Premier League goals to Tyneside, and will be expected to bear the brunt of Newcastle’s goalscoring as Woltemade adapts to life in England.

Piero Hincapie – Arsenal

Arsenal had completed the bulk of their business ahead of the transfer window’s last week, with Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi and Eberechi Eze all joining well in advance of the window slamming shut.

Piero Hincapie will provide extra defensive depth to Mikel Arteta’s side, giving the Spaniard an option as a full-back and a centre-back in competition with Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelley.

Hincapie was part of the Bayer Leverkusen side that sensationally won an unbeaten Bundesliga title, with the side losing only once all season across three competitions.

That winning experience may help Arteta’s side in their quest for silverware this season, with Hincapie’s first potential Arsenal start coming on Saturday as they welcome Nottingham Forest to the Emirates.
