Alexandro Bernabei ‘better’ than Celtic teammate as footage re-analysed – expert
Frank McAvennie has suggested Alexandro Bernabei is a “better defender” than his Celtic teammate Greg Taylor.
But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Bernabei will have to wait for his chance in the first team.
The 22-year-old has made 17 appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side since his arrival from Lanus in the summer.
The defender has struggled to oust Taylor from the starting lineup due to his impressive form this season with most of Bernabei’s starts coming as a result of Taylor’s injuries.
As shown on Sky Sports (2 April), Bernabei scored his first goal for the Green and Whites last weekend in the 2-0 win over Ross County.
The left-back replaced Taylor for the final half an hour of the win and scored late into injury time.
McAvennie insisted Bernabei’s time will come.
“He is a natural left-back and I think he might be a better defender,” he told Football Insider.
“But Greg has come on leaps and bounds and I have not been short of criticising him when he has needed it. But he has come on wonders and that is all down to the manager.

“I just can’t get used to seeing the left-back running up front but that is the way Celtic like to play now and it is great to watch.
“At the moment Bernabei is just biding his time and his goal last week is not doing him any harm.“
