Arne Slot must have been left furious at his sides uncharacteristically poor display against Man City in the Premier League title race.
Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland had given the Reds a chance of closing the gap on the Gunners at the top of the table.
Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa a week earlier had returned the Reds to winning ways in the Premier League, but Man City dealt Slot’s side another blow in their hopes of defending their crown.

Alexis Mac Allister
The Liverpool midfielder had a torrid game in the middle of the park, alongside his team mates as Man City dominated proceedings.
The Argentine was booked and committed the most fouls whilst on the pitch, alongside also being unable to drive his team forward.

Curtis Jones could have come off the bench earlier to try and change things, but Slot opted to keep his midfield intact until the latter stages of the game.
Virgil van Dijk
The Liverpool captain did not do enough to block Nico Gonzalez’s goal which gave Man City a 2-0 cushion at half-time.
Virgil van Dijk is not the player he once was according to Matt Le Tissier, and his laboured nature was again on display in that moment.
The 34-year-old also should have done more on the pitch to galvanise his team mates.
The centre-back did have a header ruled out for an offside by Andy Robertson, in what could have turned the game before Gonzalez’s strike.
Mo Salah
Liverpool’s star did not show up at the Etihad, with an invisible display alongside his fellow attacking colleagues.
The 33-year-old did not receive enough of the ball, but a prime Mo Salah would have made something happen for Liverpool even in the most difficult of circumstances.
Liverpool did not put enough pressure on Gianluigi Donnarumma’s goal to look like they were going to get back into the game, with Nico O’Reilly dealing well with Salah’s threat.
