Alexis Mac Allister reacts as Liverpool make huge Florian Wirtz announcement

Alexis Mac Allister has reacted to the major news that Liverpool have signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Arne Slot has made no delay in bolstering his ranks at Anfield after winning the Premier League title during his first season with the Merseyside giants.

After signing Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool had been chasing Florian Wirtz for a long time, and have finally got the Germany international’s signature over the line.

The attacking midfielder scored 16 goals in 45 appearances for Leverkusen last term and has joined the Reds for a new club record fee of £116 million, as per BBC Sport [20 June].

Mac Allister reacts as Liverpool make Wirtz signing

Slot already boasts a star-studded midfield including the likes of 2022 World Cup winner Mac Allister, who notched seven goals and six assists across all competitions last season.

But the addition of Wirtz will add yet more firepower to the Anfield side’s ranks, as they look to retain their Premier League title.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, 20 June, Liverpool’s official account declared: “Flo Wirtz is a red.”

The post attracted a like from new teammate Mac Allister.

Wirtz’s role set to be determined by Slot’s transfer activity

Wirtz’s impressive exploits in the ‘number 10’ role suggest that he is ready to take up the attacking midfield slot in Liverpool’s starting 11, which could see Dominik Szoboszlai operating in a deeper midfield role.

However, the Germany international could also occupy the false nine spot often held by Luis Diaz last season, while Darwin Nunez has fallen out of favour under Slot.

But Liverpool could still sign Alexander Isak, and the potential addition of the prolific Sweden international would squash any chances of Wirtz leading the line.

On the other hand, Nunez is set for an Anfield exit, so if the Reds sell the Uruguayan and don’t sign Isak, there is a distinct possibility that the new signing could operate as a striker.

Either way, Liverpool supporters have been left excited by the acquisition of Wirtz, who fired Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title in 2024.

Meanwhile, football finance expert Dan Plumley has weighed in on Andy Robertson’s potential Anfield exit in a Liverpool News 247 exclusive.
