Alexis Mac Allister reacts to Julian Alvarez amid Liverpool transfer whispers

Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez attracted the attention of Alexis Mac Allister amid links with a summer move to Liverpool.

The Argentine rose to fame during his time with Man City, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League, an FA Cup, and the World Cup before leaving for La Liga.

With 27 goals and five assists in 53 appearances, it has clearly been a move which has worked out for the 25-year-old, but he could now land back in the Premier League following one season in Spain.

Mick Brown told Football Insider in March that Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Alvarez ahead of the summer transfer window, though the Reds are unlikely to make a move so soon after the player left England.

It would be a rather surprising move for the talented forward, with City fans unlikely to forgive him if it were to happen this summer, but Arne Slot could change his mind ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Taking to Instagram (18 May), Alvarez shared a video of his spectacular free-kick against Real Betis, simply capturing the post with his trademark spider web and emojis to depict the top corner.

Amongst likes from his international teammates, Marco Senesi, Emi Martinez, and Enzo Fernandez, was Liverpool’s star midfielder, Mac Allister.

Arne Slot to sign ready-made Darwin Nunez replacement at Liverpool

Football Insider verdict

While a big-money move for Alvarez looks highly unlikely at Anfield this summer, Slot needs to make some changes ahead of the 2024/25 campaign despite lifting the Premier League title.

Fans were left disappointed after seeing their team knocked out of the Champions League and FA Cup at early stages, leaving the Dutchman with plenty of achievements still to aim for next term.

Before he can have another attempt in those competitions, though, Slot needs to invest in the summer transfer market with the backing of the owners, but that could also mean a squad overhaul first.

Football Insider understands that Nunez looks certain to part ways with Liverpool, with the 25-year-old likely choosing between the Saudi Pro League and La Liga ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are both being linked with exits this summer, and with the sales generated from those sales, a move for Atletico Madrid’s biggest star seems more plausible for the Reds.
