Alexis Mac Allister sends ‘ankle’ injury update to Liverpool fans after horror tackle forced half-time exit

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister dispatched an update on the “ankle” injury he sustained from a Lesley Ugochukwu challenge.

Liverpool beat Burnley in stoppage time thanks to Mohamed Salah’s penalty, as the Reds maintained their perfect start to the Premier League.

However, concerns were raised after Mac Allister was substituted at halftime after Ugochukwu’s late challenge on the midfielder earlier in the first half.

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett believes Ugochukwu should have been sent off as the challenge “endangered” the Argentine.

The former Chelsea player was later dismissed for a second yellow card, but the damage had already been done for Mac Allister. He later shared a message with the fans, providing an update.

Alexis Mac Allister provides injury update after Liverpool win

After Liverpool’s late victory over Burnley, Mac Allister shared a recovery update on Instagram whilst also dedicating a message to the match-winner Salah.

He said: “A hard-fought away win, good work by the team. Time to recover my ankle and think about a new Champions League campaign. Never in doubt [Salah]”.

His teammates showed support to his post with Cody Gakpo commenting a heart emoji while Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Hugo Ekitike all liked the message.

The 26-year-old had only just recovered from injury for Liverpool’s previous fixture against Arsenal, before Mac Allister went on international duty with Argentina.

His latest message will ease concerns over his condition, but he is set to be assessed ahead of the Reds’ Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid.

With Liverpool resting Alexander Isak to gain fitness, the Reds will be desperate to avoid another key player missing a crucial run of fixtures.

Liverpool face Federico Chiesa transfer decision

While Liverpool came away with a victory, Federico Chiesa’s future at the club has come under fresh speculation.

Football Insider revealed Chiesa could leave Liverpool as soon as January, with Isak’s arrival into the matchday squad imminent, pushing him further down the pecking order.

Arne Slot left Chiesa out of his Champions League squad with Rio Ngumoha being chosen instead, showing that the Italian may not feature in Dutchman’s plans for much longer.

While a move didn’t materialise in the summer, it is understood a move in January could be a possibility, as Chiesa will likely seek regular first-team football ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
