Alfredo Morelos could ‘put minds at ease’ after Rangers update via Sky – expert

Alan Hutton has claimed Alfredo Morelos can “put everybody’s mind at ease” by signing a new contract at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gers right-back said Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side struggled when the 26-year-old was injured last season.

Sky Sports reported (25 July) that Van Bronckhorst is “very positive” about Morelos signing a new deal at Ibrox.

The Colombian international has entered the final year of his contract.

There has been interest from a number of clubs in the striker but he is said to be “positive” about agreeing a new contract.

Morelos missed the second half of last season after a thigh injury sidelined him for three months.

When asked if it is important for the striker to sign a new deal as soon as possible, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think it is.

It just puts everybody’s mind at ease.

The fans, the player, the club. If he signs a long-term contract you know he’s there for the foreseeable future.

They’ve obviously brought in Colak, he’s obviously a different type of player to Morelos but we’ve seen the problems Rangers had last season when Alfredo was injured, [Kemar] Roofe was injured and they really struggled.

They had to play [Joe] Aribo, [Fashion] Sakala, the likes of these players through the middle, didn’t work always, did on occasion but they needed that strength and depth.

So if Morelos does sign I believe they’ll have that this season.

In other news, according to an expert, Rangers expected to accept £4m Kemar Roofe offer after journalist’s update.
