Alfredo Morelos: Rangers ‘must be fuming’ with Colombia after title race setback

Frank McAvennie claims Rangers must be “annoyed” with Colombia after they failed to use Alfredo Morelos during the most recent round of international games.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the striker could have made a difference in some of the Gers’ recent losses.

Morelos, 25, has returned to Rangers with a bang, bagging three goals in two outings since returning from international duty. ‘

While away in January, Morelos failed to make Colombia’s matchday squads as he missed crucial Rangers games.

These included a 3-0 loss to Celtic and a 3-3 draw with Ross County which saw them lose their place at the top of the Premiership.

With Morelos not being used at all, McAvennie expects the Ibrox club are “fuming” with the Colombia national setup.

“The guy is always going to be scoring goals and it’s great for Rangers that he’s back,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I would be annoyed if I was them, to be honest. Every time Morelos goes away with Colombia he misses a load of games.

“He never seems to play for them, Rangers must be fuming. I’ll be honest, I don’t know who the lad is who starts ahead of him but he must be some player.

“Morelos is a brilliant player and he’s so big for Rangers. They lose him for weeks at a time and it’s not like he’s a key player for Colombia.

“That would annoy me because he’s come back and started scoring again straight away.

“He could have been the difference in the games where they have been dropping points.”
