Kevin Campbell applauded Leeds United for their decision to enter contract negotiations with Ezgjan Alioski.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Arsenal and West Brom striker claimed the 28-year-old is a “Premier League star” and would be of interest to other clubs if he was made available.
Alioski has entered the final eight months of his contract at Elland Road and will become a free agent next July if his situation does not change.
However, as revealed by Football Insider, the club are offering Ezgjan Alioski a new and improved long-term contract in a hope to tie him down ahead of the January window.
A deal worth more than £30,000-a-week, and £5million-plus in total, is set to be tabled to the Macedonia international who has started four Premier League games this term.
When asked by Football Insider if he expected the versatile midfielder to commit his long-term future to the Yorkshire club, Campbell said:
“Alioski is a reliable player and he has proven to be that over a period of time.
“He was an integral part of that Championship winning team and now he is a Premier League star and he is doing the business.
“You have to tie up these kinds of players because if you do not another club will have them.
“It is smart business by Leeds to enter negotiations and I am sure that he will sign.”
