Alisson Becker and Hugo Ekitike respond emotionally to Liverpool star’s farewell message

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has posted a lengthy message to supporters after it was confirmed he would leave the club.

Konate will leave as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the month after five years at Anfield.

The 27-year-old won the Premier League and FA Cup during his time on Merseyside, forming a strong partnership with Virgil van Dijk.

The Frenchman could not agree a new deal to extend his stay at Liverpool despite talks, with a gap in valuation and wages.

Liverpool’s need for a new defender this summer now increases in significance, with the Reds short of defensive options.

Ibrahima Konate to be ‘missed’ at Liverpool

Alongside a video of his time at Liverpool, Konate shared a message to Liverpool fans saying he was “saddened” not to have said goodbye at the final home game of the season against Brentford.

Konate said it was time for a “new challenge and a new chapter,” but that representing Liverpool was an “honour.”

Numerous messages of support flooded in from his Liverpool teammates, including goalkeeper Alisson and forward Hugo Ekitike.

Alisson posted, “Legend, I’ll miss you brother,” whilst Ekitike also replied, “I’m going to miss you my brother.”

Former Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who was sacked by the club just days ago, said “good luck” to Konate for the future.

Liverpool make transfer plans amid Alisson uncertainty

Alisson’s future at Liverpool is uncertain as the opening of the summer transfer window edges closer, amid interest from Juventus.

Sources have told Football Insider that Liverpool will be targeting a new goalkeeper if they can’t prevent Alisson from leaving the club.

The 33-year-old has been the undisputed number one at Anfield since he arrived from Roma in 2018, but he faced spells on the sidelines this season.

Number two Giorgi Mamardashvili has not convinced Liverpool that he can take over from Alisson on a permanent basis, meaning new goalkeepers are already being shortlisted.
