Alisson Becker’s Liverpool absence could be longer than first feared – sources

Liverpool fear Alisson Becker could be out until December with the hamstring injury he sustained earlier this month, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old was forced to come off in the 79th minute after injuring his hamstring in their 1-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace on October 5th.

Liverpool’s public stance is that Alisson will not return before the next international break in mid-November, but privately their initial projected timeline is potentially longer.

Given the Brazil goalkeeper’s history of hamstring trouble and the availability of a capable deputy in Caoimhin Kelleher, his absence may be extended by a further two weeks, taking it up to a two-month spell on the sidelines.

With Liverpool’s medical department preferring not to take any risks with such a key player, who has been a virtual untouchable throughout his Anfield career, it is now possible he may not return until early December.

Alisson’s regular injury issues becoming a big worry for Liverpool

The shot-stopper has now missed 40 games through injury for Liverpool over the last five seasons, more than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Republic of Ireland international Kelleher was pushing for a move away from Anfield over the summer but will now be given a chance to stake his claim under new manager Arne Slot.

The purchase and subsequent loan of Giorgi Mamardashvili indicates the club are looking to the future as Alisson struggles to shake off his hamstring troubles.

Liverpool will be missing Alisson at a key moment in their season as they’re due to play three pivotal away games against RB Leipzig, Arsenal, and Brigton in the span of just seven days.

Slot’s side still managed to secure an impressive win against an in-form Chelsea on Sunday (October 20) to keep them at the top of the Premier League table.
