Alistair Johnston facing Celtic axe after what expert has spotted

Frank McAvennie has insisted Anthony Ralston will get more game time for Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Ralston looked rusty when he started against Hearts on Wednesday (8 March).

The 24-year-old hasn’t featured for the Celts since their 2-1 win over Livingston on 21 December when he picked up an injury.

The right-back was set to return in January, but after another setback his first return to the squad was for the game against Aberdeen on 18 February and he was an unused substitute.

The Scotland international returned to the starting XI for the first time in 2023 for the 3-1 win over Hearts, replacing Alistair Johnston who was dropped for the first time since his debut.

Johnston returned to the starting lineup for the Scottish Cup quarter final clash against Hearts on Saturday (11 March), with Ralston an unused substitute in the game.

But McAvennie insisted Ralston will be back in the starting XI.

You see Ralston has not had a game for a while,” he told Football Insider.

Although he was superb the other night, there were a couple of times where his crossing never went near anyone.

He was laughing at one point and if he laughs it must be a bad cross.

That is just lack of game time and that will come back to him. He is definitely a backup to Johnston now who has settled in very well.
