Allan McGregor’s pal claims he’s quitting Rangers

Alan Hutton has claimed this season will be Allan McGregor’s last at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said that although he has not doubt his good friend McGregor has the ability to play for an extra season, he thinks he will retire at the end of this year.

The 41-year-old is out of contract this summer after signing a one-year contract extension at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Although it looks to be his last season at Ibrox, Michael Beale hinted that the goalkeeper could continue for another year.

As quoted by footballscotland (28 March), Beale claimed that the shot stopper is “not finished yet” and hailed the “outstanding” service McGregor has given the club after he made his 500th appearance at the weekend (1 April).

When asked if McGregor has got another season in him, Hutton told Football Insider:I think probably in the back of your mind you always think that way, can I go on? He probably could.

At the age of 41 now he is no spring chicken. But, me personally, I think this will be his final year.

They have announced his testimonial come pre-season which is a great thing but I can’t see him staying.

I do believe he has still got it in him, he has showed that this year. But I think this will be his last one.

McGregor worked his way through Rangers youth teams before signing a professional deal back in 2001.

Rangers

The former Scotland international spent many of his early years at the club on loan before joining Besiktas and then Hull City on permanent deals.

McGregor returned to Ibrox in 2018 and has been an important member of the squad despite his age.

In other news, Rangers could accept defender offer as French and Turkish clubs circle.
