Allardyce in hunt for CL colossus after pinpointing Everton weakness (not striker) - report

Sam Allardyce has set his sights on Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi after pinpointing a weakness in his newly acquired midfield at Goodison Park, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claims that Allardyce believes his midfield options are lacking “bite” and is now monitoring the situation of N’Zonzi at Sevilla.

It is understood that the 28-year-old has a stunning price-tag of £25million on his head after he only signed a new deal last year which lasts until 2020 due to interest from Serie A champions Juventus.

N’Zonzi is known for his huge physical presence in midfield and has even earned two international caps with France due to his brilliant form in Spain.

The 6ft 4in midfield colossus has made 16 appearances across all competitions this season, including six in the Champions League.

The report adds that Allardyce is likely to assess his options ahead of the January transfer window which opens in just a matter of weeks.

Many believe that Everton are still in need of a striker after failing to adequately replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer but it seems that Allardyce has his eyes on strengthening the midfield first.

Football Insider Verdict

N’Zonzi’s career has strangely took a huge turn for the best in Spain despite being a pretty average player in the Premier League from his time with Stoke and Blackburn. No one ever seem to rate the Frenchman that highly but it was clear as soon as he moved to Sevilla that he had a lot of quality. There aren’t many players out there who can shield the back four as well as N’Zonzi and he would no doubt be a great midfield companion next to someone like Idrissa Gueye, who is more mobile and good on the ball. £25million is a lot of money, but Everton have already showed that they are not afraid to splash the cash on improving the squad.
