‘Am I missing something?’ – Aston Villa fans rage at £26m star after what he did vs Maccabi Tel Aviv
Aston Villa fans look to have had enough of one of their summer signings after his latest dismal showing in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Aston Villa beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-0 on home turf in the Europa League in a dour game that did not really live up to its pre-match billing.
The Thursday (6 November) night clash saw Ian Maatsen and Donyell Malen score in either half to push Unai Emery‘s side up to sixth in the UEL table.
Villa will now turn their attention back to the Premier League as they welcome Bournemouth to the Second City on Sunday (9 November), where one man will not be anywhere near the starting eleven if the fans get their way.

Evann Guessand was desperately poor against Maccabi
Villa signed Nice forward Evann Guessand for an initial £26million [BBC] in the summer window, but he once again flopped on Thursday night with another poor performance.
He was seriously ineffective against Maccabi, with no goals, no chances created and just two touches in their box before going off in the 74th minute.
The 24-year-old has now scored just one goal in his first 14 appearances for the club, despite being handed a start in four of their last five games in all competitions.
Harvey Elliott has struggled for game-time at Villa behind Guessand, and he will be wondering what he has to do to get in the side considering the Ivorian’s poor form.
Villa fans fume with Guessand and blame board for wasting money in the summer
Villa fans took to X during and after the Maccabi clash to offer their opinions on Guessand’s performance, and the general consensus was that he has been nowhere near good enough at the start of his spell at the club.
One fan wrote: “Guessand instead of getting better seems to get worse every game.. offering nothing out there,” while another simply said: “He’s a donkey, another waste of money.”
Another supporter fumed: “First minute and Guessand gives away the ball, fouls the opponent and gets passed around. Sums it up, he’s not at the level required.“
While one compared him to a former Premier League striker, saying: “He can’t pass a ball! He’s meant to have pace, am I missing something? He’s about a quick as Andy Carroll…I hope he comes good but I just don’t see it tbh.“
