Amad Diallo breaks social media silence after Man United humiliation

Man United star Amad Diallo is the first player to post on social media after their humiliating 2-0 Premier League defeat to Newcastle on Monday (December 30).

The 22-year-old played the full 90 minutes against Eddie Howe’s side but was powerless to stop Man United falling to their third consecutive Premier League defeat.

In-form striker Alexander Isak opened the scoring after just four minutes, heading Lewis Hall’s deflected cross past Andre Onana from close range.

Joelinton doubled the visitor’s lead shortly after, towering over Lisandro Martinez to nod home and secure Newcastle’s first win at Old Trafford in 42 years.

Ruben Amorim has failed to get United firing since replacing Erik ten Hag in November, winning four, drawing one, and losing six.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the defeat, Amorim admitted his side face the very real threat of relegation if results don’t improve soon.

Amorim said: “I think that it [relegation] is a possibility and we have to be clear with our fans. We have to change something but this season will be really hard on everybody. It can make us stronger and we have to fight.

“It is really hard. It is one of the worst moments in the history of our club, and we have to accept that. Another loss in front of our own supporters.”

Amad Diallo apologises to Man United fans as torrid run of form continues

The 20-time champions are now the first club in Premier League history to lose five, or more, games throughout December in consecutive seasons.

Diallo has become a key player since Amorim took over, starting 17 of his 27 games across all competitions, scoring five goals, and providing seven assists in his 1609 minutes of action.

Clearly frustrated by their recent form, Diallo took to X, formally known as Twitter, to send a heartfelt apology to the fans, saying: “A very difficult year, apologising is not enough… but you have supported us and continued to do so throughout all this time. Thank you.”

Amorim’s side are now closer to the relegation zone than the top four, sitting in 14th with six wins, four draws, nine defeats, and 22 points from their 19 games.

It won’t get any easier for Man United in 2025 as they travel to league leaders Liverpool for their first game of the new year on Sunday (January 5) before heading to Arsenal for their first FA Cup game of the season a week later.
