Amanda Staveley to Tottenham: Keith Wyness drops strong takeover claim

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Tottenham’s disappointing start to the Premier League season will not have put off any potential investors.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – admitted Spurs’ lack of on-field success could make it easier to find new investment.

Tottenham currently sit 10th in the Premier League table after losing seven of their opening 16 games this season.

It has been widely reported this year chairman Daniel Levy has been in talks to sell a minority stake that could value the club at up to £3.75billion.

Former Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley has been heavily linked with a move to secure shares in the club, but that deal is yet to come to fruition.

Spurs’ revenue rose to a club record £549.6million in their latest accounts for 2022-23.

Tottenham are more attractive to investors after on-field issues

Wyness believes any potential investor will be looking for ways to increase the club’s revenue.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Tottenham’s recent lack of success actually makes it easier to find investment because you’ve then got that increase in quality of achievement that you’ve still got to go.

“You could look at the European money that could be coming in if the team gets going.

“It’s not as though you’re buying into a team that’s firing on all cylinders right now in every possible way and has reached maximum revenue.

“An investor is always looking to come in and try and improve the revenue situation and improve their investment.

“For an investor, they can see that chance of a marginal gain going forward, so I don’t think any investor would be put off.

“It’s also not a one-season situation for an investment.

“You are looking much longer term, so I don’t think this will be putting anybody off right now.”
