Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Tottenham defender Joe Rodon after he kept a clean sheet on his full debut for the club.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Arsenal and Everton striker insisted he is unsurprised that the 23-year-old has taken to life in the Premier League.
Rodon starred at Stamford Bridge on Sunday on what was his first Premier League start since an £11million deadline-day move from Swansea.
The Wales international has leapfrogged Davinson Sanchez in the pecking order at Spurs and is set to play a pivotal role over the festive period with Toby Alderweireld sidelined through injury for around a month.
Campbell claimed that Jose Mourinho’s side’s form has helped the centre-half settle quickly.
“I cannot say that I am surprised that he has settled in at Spurs,” he told Football Insider.
“A young player that has done really well in his career so far and it always helps to come into a side that is playing well. That is really important because everybody is playing up to their capabilities. It makes it an easier transition.
“Credit to the young man. He has come into a very difficult game, away at Chelsea, and kept a clean sheet. A fantastic start so fair play to him for that.”
Speaking on his full debut, Rodon said: “It was a massive game in the league and you’re up against top players, and these mistakes aren’t acceptable.
“We chatted before the game, we always wanted to go into the game and get the three points, but sometimes you have to dig in and get the clean sheet, take the point and move on.”
