Amorim must ‘win back dressing room’ after new Man United rift – top source

Ruben Amorim has endured a stuttering start to life as Man United boss after taking charge at the club late in 2024.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (5 March) that Amorim has told friends he thinks he made a mistake taking the job at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese boss, 40, feels he should have waited until this summer before taking charge and has been “personally shocked by how bad the players are” at United.

Man United sit 14th in the Premier League and have been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions on Amorim’s watch.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has revealed what he has heard from sources at Old Trafford.

Amorim staff central to ‘divide’ at Man United, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed he has been told of a “divide” emerging between players and Amorim’s staff.

The ex-Sporting CP boss brought a number of coaches to Old Trafford from his former side.

Wyness claimed Amorim already has to “win back the dressing room” – and will have to do so in the summer.

Amorim’s record at Man United

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “All my sources at United are saying that there is starting to be a divide between the squad and his backroom staff.

“That’s something which often happens when there are different cliques, and it’s something which has to be sorted out this summer.

“They’ve got to pay attention to that.

“He’s got to win back the dressing room – and he’s got a whole summer to do it.

“I think that’s the right time. He’s got off to a difficult start, but he’s not been able to get to know everyone. He’s been thrown into the fire.

“I would stick with him and move forward.”

Victor Osimhen to Man United latest

Football Insider revealed on 3 March that Man United will find a move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen a “difficult deal to do” in the off-season.

It is believed United will have to sell players to fund an assault on the transfer window this summer.

Osimhen earns huge money in his Napoli contract but United are trying to rein in their wage structure and move on many of the club’s top earners.
