Andre Onana reacts to Joshua Zirkzee announcement at Man United amid Lyon drama

Andre Onana reacted to a new update concerning his striker teammate Joshua Zirkzee at Man United.

The Red Devils are currently preparing to face Lyon in an important Europa League quarter-final second leg, taking a 2-2 result to France on Thursday, 17 April, after a frustrating draw at Old Trafford.

Onana has been under immense pressure at Man United for much of the season, but none more so after being dropped against Newcastle United for his mistakes in the first leg.

Despite this, Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the first-choice goalkeeper will be in between the sticks against Lyon, but he will not be joined by Zirkzee after the latest update on the misfiring forward.

Joshua Zirkzee’s season comes to an abrupt end as injury blow emerges

Taking to Instagram (16 April), the club’s official page wrote: “Ruben has ruled Joshua Zirkzee out for the season. Speedy recovery, Josh,” with a red love heart.

Showing his sign of support, teammate Onana liked the post ahead of United’s clash against Lyon in the Europa League.

Losing Zirkzee for the rest of the season is certainly bad timing, given his recent uprise in form, but with Amad Diallo back in training, it seems to be one in and one out for the manager.

It is unlikely to be soon enough for Amorim, who needs as many stars at his disposal to get past Lyon to the Europa League semi-finals, but he could be left with just one choice up front.

That comes in the form of Rasmus Hojlund, who has massively underwhelmed at Man United this season, scoring just eight goals across all competitions, only three of which have come in the Premier League.

Amorim’s future could be resting on Man United securing Champions League football next season, with supporters growing restless and frustrated at Old Trafford as performances continue to disappoint.

However, he will need to accomplish that without Zirkzee’s help in the final third, who actually scored in two of United’s last three Europa League clashes, annoyingly.
