Andrey Santos, Christopher Nkunku react to message from Chelsea star Moises Caicedo
Chelsea’s new boy Andrey Santos and Christopher Nkunku reacted to a message from star midfielder Moises Caicedo.
The Blues kicked off their Club World Cup (CWC) campaign in strong fashion, securing a 2-0 win over MLS side LAFC.
Pedro Neto and Real Madrid target Enzo Fernandez scored for the Premier League club, and fans will have been delighted to see new signing Liam Delap come off the bench to assist the Argentine midfielder’s goal.
But for as impressive as the team’s performance was on the pitch, the CWC is having growing pains.
The match was played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of NFL side Atlanta Falcons and has a capacity of 71,000.
Yet just 22,000 people showed up to watch Chelsea play against LAFC, and FIFA’s awkward style of introducing the players pre-match was exacerbated by the lack of atmosphere in the stadium.
Moises Caicedo shares message with Chelsea fans after LAFC win
Following the win over LAFC, Caicedo shared several pictures of himself in action to Instagram, captioned: “+3”.
The post was liked by Chelsea starlet Santos, who will be hoping to get some minutes in the next game against Flamengo, and Nkunku, whose inclusion in the CWC squad came as somewhat of a surprise, given the Frenchman is heavily linked with an exit this summer.
Chelsea face tough test against Flamengo next
Football Insider Verdict
Whilst the most interesting moment of Chelsea’s win over LAFC was Oliver Giroud delaying the match after misplacing his shirt, their match against Flamengo will undoubtedly prove to be a tougher test.
Former Blue, Jorginho, made his debut for the Brazilian outfit in their CWC opener, a comfortable 2-0 win over Tunisian side ES Tunis.
Joining him is a collection of South American stars, desperate to prove themselves after suffering heartbreak the last time they participated in the competition.
Flamengo truly felt they had a chance of winning the CWC in 2022, and hired current Wolves coach Vitor Pereira to lead the charge, only to fall flat on their faces and lose in the semi-final to Al-Hilal.
But with a new look side that includes Ecuadorian star Gonzalo Plata, who got himself and Kendry Paez in trouble for partying last year [MailOnline], Brazil and Uruguay internationals Gerson and Giorgian De Arrascaeta, plus Pedro, a man who scores goals like it’s going out of fashion, the Serie A outfit look better than ever, and could pose a real danger to Chelsea if they’re not careful.
