Andrey Santos responds to Filip Jorgensen’s message after Chelsea development

Filip Jorgensen is doing his best to claim the number one spot at Chelsea amid increased competition at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea‘s goalkeeping became a huge point of contention last season as both Jorgensen and Robert Sanchez failed to convince, as the pair alternated between various domestic and European competitions.

The performances of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Djordje Petrovic on loan at Bournemouth and Strasbourg respectively also sparked criticism from Chelsea’s fans, as both excelled away from their parent club.

Mike Penders‘ arrival from Genk this summer adds yet another potential number one into the mix, but Jorgensen will look to kick on between the Stamford Bridge sticks after a career milestone this month.

Jorgensen praised as Chelsea progress in Club World Cup

Jorgensen’s attempts to nail down Chelsea’s number one spot will be on stronger footing once Kepa completes his anticipated switch to Arsenal this summer, while Petrovic’s future is also up in the air.

Enzo Maresca gave Jorgensen the nod in Chelsea’s final Club World Cup group match against Esperance de Tunis though, and was rewarded with a clean sheet from the decent Denmark debutant in a 3-0 win.

Tosin Adarabioyo and Liam Delap’s goals in first-half stoppage time were followed up by another in the 97th minute from Tyrique George, as Jorgensen had a comfortable game at the other end for the Blues.

Jorgensen posted a series of images on Instagram (25 June) after the match, and Andrey Santos commented with both ‘fingers crossed’ and ‘heart’ emojis after he assisted George’s goal on his Chelsea debut.

Kepa may be on his way to Arsenal and Petrovic has also been heavily touted with a move away after his successful loan at Strasbourg, but even their departures would still leave Maresca with several options.

Sanchez is the experienced choice at Premier League level, but Jorgensen was almost ever-present in Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League victory and Penders arrives with a strong reputation despite his age.

Penders is only 19 and is unlikely to be thrown in at the deep end next season, but as Jorgensen and Sanchez battle for a starting spot, it remains to be seen who will line up against Crystal Palace on 17 August.
