Andriy Yarmolenko: ‘Shocking’ West Ham star lambasted by pundit – ’80-year-olds turn quicker’

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed he has seen “80-year-old’s turn quicker” than Andriy Yarmolenko and he sums up the lack of ambition at West Ham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted West Ham have a lot of problems that will only be solved by investment.

Yarmolenko was dropped to the bench as the Hammer’s beat Watford 1-0 last night (8 February) after his FA Cup horror show.

The Ukraine captain was handed just his seventh start of the season as David Moyes’ side survived a potential FA Cup upset with a 2-1 victory over Kidderminster Harriers after extra time on Saturday (5 February).

As quoted by football.london on Monday (7 February), Moyes defended his “fantastic” fringe players despite the scare at Kidderminster Harriers.

Yarmolenko has not started in the Premier League this term but has been a regular in the cup competitions.

Asked for his verdict on West Ham’s fringe stars, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yarmolenko, honestly, I’ve seen 80-year-olds turn quicker than him. He was shocking.

“Vlasic did nothing. I still think they are light in the middle when Declan Rice is not there.

“West Ham have not shown the ambition. They’ll finish eighth, for me, this season.

“There is so much they need to invest in. They have got a lot of problems now this season.”

Yarmolenko is out of contract at West Ham at the end of the current campaign.

The 32-year-old has scored 11 times and provided seven assists in 75 games across all competitions for the Irons.
