Andy Couzens: These are two reasons why Leeds lost to Huddersfield
By Will Butcher
Andy Couzens believes Leeds had two principal failing against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield on Sunday.
Couzens claimed Leeds were outfought in midfield and showed a lack of creativity in the final third after being beaten 2-1 by their local rivals, following Michael Hefele’s 86th-minute winner.
Posting on his personal Twitter account, former Leeds ace Couzens claimed Leeds “lost the midfield battle” and “didn’t create enough” for striker Chris Wood to convert.
Huddersfield took the lead through substitute Izzy Brown, who got on the end of a low cross to finish into the roof of the net.
However, Wood scored his 21st goal of the season with a wonderful touch and finish, after Pablo Hernandez’s cross had been knocked down by Kyle Bartley.
But it was not enough, as Huddersfield dominated the game with Australia international Aaron Mooy pulling the strings from the centre of midfield.
His tame shot was diverted into the path of Hefele, who slid the ball past Rob Green to earn all three points as well as provoking a huge confrontation on the touchline that saw both managers sent to the stands.
Leeds will be looking to get back to winning ways against Cardiff on Saturday, as they now sit six points off the automatic promotion places in fifth position.
Couzens made 37 appearances for Leeds between 1993 and 1997, before moving on to play for the likes of Carlisle and Blackpool.
