Andy Robertson may be axed from Liverpool XI amid ‘big’ reveal – pundit

Kostas Tsimikas may replace Andy Robertson in the Liverpool starting XI for the Merseyside derby with Everton on Saturday (3 September), according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Robertson should not have any long-term worries about his place in the side but may need a rest.

The 28-year-old has started all five of Liverpool’s Premier League games this season but has been brought off for Tsimikas in the last four.

Jurgen Klopp made the change in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, 2-1 loss to Man United and the 2-1 win over Newcastle United – all games that his side were chasing towards the end.

In the 9-0 win over Bournemouth, Tsimikas provided two assists despite only coming on for the final 20 minutes of the game.

He told club media earlier this week (30 August) it was “one of the biggest wins of his career” and “the sky is the limit” for him.

Asked whether Robertson could lose his place to the 26-year-old, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “You never know.

“Klopp will think to himself ‘If you’re not performing or you’re looking tired or whatever the reasons are you will be brought off’.

“Tsimikas is a good player, he will probably look at starting him and resting Robertson. He might give Tsimikas a chance.

“That’s why you have a squad of players, so you can use everyone.

“I don’t think it will be a problem for Robertson but he might need taking out of the side for one game.”

Tsimikas moved to Liverpool from Olympiacos in the summer of 2020 but has found opportunities limited due to Robertson’s form.

The Greece international has eight assists in 37 games across all competitions for the Reds, including 19 starts.
