Andy Robertson to join Celtic? O’Rourke drops verdict amid Liverpool ‘talks’

Liverpool are still no closer to agreeing a new deal for Andy Robertson as potential suitors across Europe contend for his signature.

Sources told Football Insider that Liverpool are eager to agree a new deal for Robertson, yet little progress has been made on a new contract.

The Scotsman is set to leave the Reds at the end of the season upon the expiration of his deal, catching the attention of European clubs.

Ahead of the upcoming transfer window, Robertson has been linked with a delayed January move to Atletico Madrid after persistent interest over the summer.

Celtic keen on Robertson yet European club’s prestige could be the key

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the number 26 is not panicking over the lack of a new deal at Anfield with his future very much in his own control.

Sources told Football Insider that Celtic would love the chance to bring Robertson to the club after his youth spell with them in Glasgow.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast over the Hoops’ continued interest amid bidding European suitors, I explained: “There will be speculation over his [Robertson‘s] future because he’s into the final six months or so of his contract at Liverpool.

“I’m sure talks are ongoing to see if a new deal can be agreed, but I’m sure Andy Robertson, if he is to leave Liverpool, will want to continue playing at the highest level.

“Whether that’s in the Premier League with Liverpool or elsewhere, maybe in Europe as well. There’s been interest from some of the big European clubs in Robertson, who have been keeping tabs on the situation.

“And the other thing got a factor in, but Celtic is that Kieran’s [Tierney] here and he’s in there at left-back as well. I don’t think Celtic really need to bring in another left back.”

Ibrahima Konate’s contract rejection to cause panic at Liverpool

Amid the ongoing uncertainty over the Scotland international’s future at Anfield, the Reds are also working on retaining other key players.

Sources told Football Insider that Ibrahima Konate rejected a new contract at Liverpool with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Konate has been hotly pursued by Real Madrid as a new centre-back option for Xabi Alonso and news of his unwillingness to sign a new deal suggests his head has been turned by the Spanish giants.

Arne Slot will be hammering on sporting director Richard Hughes’ door to land a centre-back replacement, especially if the ex-RB Leipzig man is destined to leave.
