‘Andy Robertson to retire’ – Liverpool fans react as star told ‘to walk away’

Liverpool fans didn’t hold back on social media after Andy Robertson’s peformance in their 3-2 defeat by Fulham on Sunday.

Arne Slot’s side missed the chance to move 14 points clear in the Premier League title race following Arsenal’s draw at Everton the day prior, suffering a 14-minute collapse in the first half at Craven Cottage.

Alexis Mac Allister had put the Reds 1-0 up after Caoimhin Kelleher was lucky to avoid conceding a penalty in the early stages, but Liverpool were soon on the back foot after Ryan Sessegnon equalised.

Alex Iwobi and Rodrigo Muniz created something from nothing within five minutes of each other to give Fulham a 3-1 lead, and though Luis Diaz gave Liverpool hope late on, they suffer a second defeat of the season.

Andy Robertson at fault for pivotal Fulham v Liverpool moment

Mac Allister’s sublime strike from range in the 14th minute had arguably come against the run of play after Fulham’s early penalty shout, but Sessegnon’s close-range finish restore parity for the Cottagers.

However, the game truly turned against Liverpool nine minutes later, when two errors in a row from Robertson gifted Iwobi and Fulham the opportunity to take a 2-1 lead which they never rescinded.

Robertson’s errors proved costly for Liverpool against Fulham

Robertson’s attempted cross-field pass was easily cut out by Iwobi, and after the Nigerian’s ball into the box was deflected, an attempted clearing header from the Scot fell straight back to Fulham’s number 17.

Iwobi did the rest with a thumping left-footed finish beyond Kelleher which Robertson failed to get in the way of, and five minutes later, Fulham further seized the initiative as Muniz netted the eventual winner.

Liverpool fans all the same thing after ‘Awful’ Robertson errors

There’s little doubt that Robertson is a modern-day Liverpool legend and one of the best left-backs the Premier League has seen, but Reds fans were unanimous in their verdict that his best days are over.

The 31-year-old’s performance at Craven Cottage set alarm bells ringing among Liverpool fans on social media, with comparisons made to Alberto Moreno after an “atrocious” afternoon’s work for Robertson.

Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez remains heavily linked with a move to Anfield, and based on Robertson’s waning output at both ends of the pitch, the time is clearly right for Slot to replace his starting left-back.
