‘Ange Postecoglou could walk out of Tottenham’ in shock new twist

Ange Postecoglou’s future has been a source of plenty of speculation in recent weeks as Tottenham weigh up whether to sack him.

An awful domestic run of form has seen Spurs win just two of their last ten league games and drop to 16th in the Premier League table.

However, they are in a strong position to reach the Europa League final after beating Bodo/Glimt 3-1 in the first leg of their semi-final.

Football Insider revealed on 2 May that Postecoglou could remain at Tottenham if they win the Europa League, with his future on a knife’s edge.

Despite that, former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who made 175 appearances for the club and remains well-connected there, told Football Insider the boss could walk away.

This would come after Football Insider revealed on 11 April that Postecoglou is among the favourites to be sacked at the end of the season amid growing pressure from the fans.

Ange Postecoglou could quit Tottenham after new twist

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider Postecoglou could be sacked regardless of whether his side go on to win the Europa League.

The boss left supporters open-mouthed earlier this season when he claimed “I always win things in my second season” – but he could yet be proved right.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Robinson explained that winning the Europa League would allow him to leave the club with his head held high having proved many of his doubters wrong.

“Everything hinges on the Europa League,” he told Football Insider.

“Ange could well win his trophy in the second season, ride off into the sunset and go ‘there you go, I told you’.

“As for his future, their Premier League and domestic campaigns have been nowhere near good enough.

“Yes, a lot of it falls at the manager’s door, but after 19 defeats, your personal and professional pride has to play a part in it.

“The players have to take some responsibility and they haven’t been good enough.

Andoni Iraola contract update emerges at Bournemouth

While Spurs continue to weigh up whether to sack Postecoglou, they have now been dealt a new blow in their pursuit of a new boss.

Football Insider revealed on 2 May that Bournemouth are confident Andoni Iraola will sign a new contract to deter the interest from Tottenham.

Iraola is seen as a crucial part of Bournemouth’s plans for the future and is believed to be happy at the club despite speculation about an exit.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Iraola is Tottenham’s top target to replace Postecoglou should they decide to pull the trigger.
