Ange Postecoglou now ‘completely lost’ at Tottenham: Major confusion after loss

Ange Postecoglou has caused bafflement with his tactics amid the disastrous run of results Tottenham have endured this season, according to a Sky Sports pundit.

He endured another difficult night on Thursday (6 February) in being knocked out of the Carabao Cup Spurs got a 4-0 thrashing by Liverpool in the second leg of their semi-final.

That has ended their hopes of another trophy, while their Premier League campaign continues to go badly.

Tottenham currently sit 14th in the standings, having suffered defeats to sides who have found themselves threatened by relegation such as Everton, Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou slammed by Jamie Redknapp

All of that had led to a number of the Tottenham supporters tipping the Australian for the sack, although he so far remains in his role.

Jamie Redknapp though is unsure where that will take Tottenham, given he feels Postecoglou has not adapted his tactics to cope with the raft of injuries they have had to endure this season.

Speaking about the Spurs boss after that cup defeat at Anfield on Sky Sports Main Event (6 February, 10:12pm), the former England international said: “I’ve seen squads beating Tottenham lately, look at [Leicester]. Do you think Ruud van Nistelrooy would’ve loved to have had that Tottenham squad before hand? But they still get beaten by [Leicester].

“Crystal Palace beat them. There’s so many different games, I know you did the Everton game not long ago Jamie [Carragher], everyone seems to find a way of beating this Tottenham side.

“I think the manager right now, he baffles me with his tactics sometimes. I think he’s completely lost in what he’s trying to do.

“He says ‘this is what I do’. You have to adapt, you have to change, and if you haven’t got the personnel that you want then you have to make sure that you’re tactics are different.”

Daniel Levy also under fire amid Spurs struggles

The Australian is not the only one to have come under fire recently, with chairman Daniel Levy also being criticised for not giving managers the backing they need to win trophies.

That has been something that has not helped Postecoglou this season given the injuries his Tottenham side have been hit with.

Problems in terms of fitness have left him having to deal with absences of a number of key players across the course of this campaign, often having to cope with a makeshift defence in particular.

But while that may have made things hard for Postecoglou, the fact he has not always altered his tactics to adapt to those changes in personnel mean he is not blameless either.

Tottenham did eventually get reinforcements in the January window with the likes of Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso, so Levy may now feel he has given his manager the backing he needs to succeed.

If Postecoglou cannot take advantage of that to improve results and performances on the pitch, questions about his future at the club will surely only get louder.
