Ange Postecoglou sack: Owner source reveals ‘all hell will break loose’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed injuries are the problem for Tottenham – not manager Ange Postecoglou.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs and their owners – backed Spurs to “drift into mid-table” as key players return to fitness.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (27 January) that Tottenham boss Postecoglou remains safe from the sack for now despite the 2-1 home loss against Leicester.

The latest defeat means Spurs are without a victory in seven Premier League games and have slipped to 15th in the table.

Postecoglou and club chairman Daniel Levy faced vocal criticism from the Tottenham supporters during and following the game.

The Australian’s side are next in action against Elfsborg in the Europa League on Thursday (30 January) with the chance to qualify directly to the last 16.

‘Injuries are the problem for Tottenham – not Postecoglou’, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The injuries are without a shadow of a doubt the problem.

“Ange, at the weekend, did say a few of his key players will be coming back very soon. Micky van de Ven, whose speed was crucial to allowing Spurs to play their high line, will be important to turning them around.

“If he gets these players back fit, they could well finish this season reasonably well.

“They’ll drift into mid-table and the fans will quieten down.

“There will still be the belief that Ange is the right person.

Tottenham

“But if things don’t go well and they drift into the relegation battle, then all hell will break loose.

“Levy will have to make the move.”
