Ange Postecoglou sack: Tottenham’s updated stance revealed today

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou remains safe from the sack for now despite the 2-1 home loss against Leicester on Sunday (26 January), sources have told Football Insider.

The defeat means Spurs are without a victory in seven Premier League games and have slipped to 15th in the table.

Nevertheless, club chiefs are believed to have sympathy with Postecoglou, 59, due to the growing injury list at Tottenham.

A big portion of the club’s first-choice starting eleven is currently on the treatment table following a jam-packed festive schedule.

Postecoglou and club chairman Daniel Levy faced vocal criticism from the Tottenham supporters during and following the loss against Leicester.

But the Australian, who is under contract with Spurs until June 2027, is set to remain in the hot seat for now despite growing calls for his dismissal.

Levy and the recruitment team at Tottenham will work hard to back their under-pressure manager before the mid-season transfer window shuts next week (3 February).

James Maddison, Timo Werner and Djed Spence are the most recent additions to the injury list, which already includes the likes of Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Micky van de Ven.

Cristian Romero has returned to training in a boost to Postecoglou but his return will need to be managed carefully.

Tottenham are struggling in the Premier League but are well placed to progress directly to the last 16 of the Europa League later this week.

Spurs also have a 1-0 advantage in their League Cup semi-final against Liverpool, ahead of the second leg at Anfield on 6 February.
