Ange Postecoglou slammed over Tottenham mole – ‘Tell him to keep his mouth shut’

Ange Postecoglou has been torn to shreds over the leaking of information at Tottenham before the team’s defeat to Wolves.

Vitor Pereira’s side ripped Spurs apart at Molineux Stadium on Sunday, 13 April, with goals coming from Rayan Ait-Nouri, Jorgen Strand Larsen, Matheus Cunha and a Djed Spence own goal in a 4-2 thrashing.

The Lilywhites are sitting 15th in the Premier League, now just two points above Wolves, but ahead of the clash, Postecoglou was more fixated on someone leaking information than his team’s performances on the pitch.

This came after news of Wilson Odobert being sent for a scan on a hamstring injury, only for him to appear on the bench against Eintracht Frankfurt, and he vowed to find the person responsible.

While some fans liked his passion about finding the person attempting to harm the club by leaking information, Martin Keown has condemned his actions, suggesting he needs to learn when to be quiet.

Tottenham ‘mole’ causes unwanted drama ahead of crucial fixtures

Speaking live via talkSPORT (14 April, 12:11pm), Arsenal legend Keown said: “If I’m the manager of the football club, none of this gets out. I’m not fanning the flames of this individual, who wants to let things out.

“At most clubs, there are people who let things out. If there’s a mole, it’s poor, but it can happen. [If I’m him] I’m keeping about what’s going on on the pitch. It’s a distraction, more cannon fodder for the media. Don’t feed the media, feed the supporters with results on the pitch.

“He’s going off on tangents too often. These are all red lights flashing around him, but the green light is what he should focus on. Go after success. Everything is a drama. He needs someone with him to tell him to keep his mouth shut on some things. Don’t get drawn in by the media.”

Ange Postecoglou piles on the pressure as supporters call for imminent sack

Football Insider verdict

There is a growing belief at Tottenham that Postecoglou will be sacked this summer, with Fulham’s Marco Silva likely to be appointed as his successor by Daniel Levy.

The Australian often finds it difficult to bite his tongue, with supporters frustrated with his abundance of excuses for the poor form on the pitch, albeit injuries have played a massive role this season.

That is likely why the fake news surrounding Odobert triggered him so much, but with performances just not up to scratch on the pitch, he needs to know what subjects to stick to when talking to the media.

With the team currently just three spots above the relegation zone, and only six matches left to play, it would be absolutely no surprise to see the club part ways with the struggling manager.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola are also linked with the Tottenham job ahead of next season, but it remains to be seen who would actually want to take over in North London.

There is certainly a lot of potential for wonders to be worked with Spurs, though Postecoglou no longer looks to be the man to take the club forward, even if he can lift the Europa League title in Bilbao.
