‘Ange Postecoglou to get new job after Tottenham sack’: Premier League verdict

Ange Postecoglou has been backed to return to work soon following his Tottenham Hotspur sacking earlier this month.

Spurs got their hands on silverware for the first time in 17 years with a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final last month, but their glory did not save the Australian’s job following a dismal campaign that saw them finish 17th in the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed on 1 June that chairman Daniel Levy was set to relieve Postecoglou of his duties, and Spurs made their official announcement of his departure on 6 June following “a review of performances and after significant reflection,” to the dismay of the majority of supporters.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank is in pole position to land the vacant role in North London, following a recent report by Football Insider, and Postecoglou’s future in the game could be away from English football following his chaotic spell at Spurs.

Ange Postecoglou tipped to land new job in Europe rather than back in the Premier League

It is unclear whether he is planning to return to management immediately or take some time away from the game, but Ally McCoist has backed Postecoglou to take the Scotland job, while The Sun have reported that the 59-year-old has been “sounded out” by clubs in England and Europe already.

Speaking live on talkSPORT on Wednesday (11 June) pundit Danny Murphy backed Postecoglou to return to management soon, but not in the Premier League, as after host Jim White asked what could come next for the Australian boss, he said: “He’ll get a job…I think somewhere in Europe will take him.

“He’s got some attributes someone will like, that all-or-nothing football. He’s won something at every club he has been at. He’ll get a job, no problem there, but I don’t think it will be here, do you?”

Simon Jordan agreed with the sentiment that Postecoglou is unlikely to return to English football soon, stating: “No, not unless the opportunity comes out of the ether where someone thinks that an Ange Postecoglou outlook is something they really quite like, and we can’t legislate for that during the course of next season until someone gets taken out of a job.”

Murphy went on to further his statement, adding: “The other thing with Ange as well, just to be fair to him, if he has got half a brain, which of course he has, he’ll have learnt a lot in this job.

“You’re always learning. He’ll look back on it and have done some self-reflection and think ‘actually, I could have done that a bit differently there.'”

Postecoglou’s impressive credentials should see him back in a job soon after Spurs sack

Football Insider verdict

Levy’s decision to sack Postecoglou has not gone down well with Spurs players and many fans, as he was believed to have built some credit in the bank for finally delivering a trophy to a club that had been starved of success for too long considering their size.

Regardless, his departure from the Lilywhites may have actually helped his future job prospects, as another poor domestic campaign next season likely would have clouded the success that he delivered last term.

Instead he has left the club on a high, and those teams that could potentially be interested in hiring him next will have the image of him holding the Europa League trophy aloft fresh in their minds.

Postecoglou’s Spurs managerial record

Postecoglou has not just delivered trophies to an English football club, having won silverware in his native Australia with South Melbourne and Brisbane Roar, as well as the J1 League with Yokohama Marinos and numerous league and cup titles in his time at Celtic.

No matter the club or country, he is a serial winner, and that kind of pedigree is sure to appeal to clubs across Europe and the wider footballing world who could see him as their next boss, so he is sure to land a new job as soon as he is interested in taking one following his sacking by Spurs.
