Ange Postecoglou ‘under new sack pressure’ after ‘worrying’ Tottenham development

Ange Postecoglou could be sacked a result of growing frustrations in sections of the Tottenham fanbase, according to the club’s former scout.

Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Blackburn and remains very well-connected at his former clubs, exclusively told Football Insider that the unrest from the stands is a “worrying” sign for the manager’s position.

This comes after the travelling supporters made their frustrations known to the players following the 1-0 Europa League round of 16 first leg defeat to AZ Alkmaar.

That reaction was shared by those still in North London, as Tottenham fans demanded Postecoglou be sacked via social media, labelling him “a joke” and “disgraceful”.

Since then, Spurs fought back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth in the Premier League, but remain in 13th place after 28 games.

Brown previously warned Football Insider that pressure from the fans could force Levy to sack Postecoglou, as their protests have been aimed at the board as well as the manager.

Now, he has insisted the growing frustration at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has put all parties in an uncomfortable position.

Levy to make Postecoglou sack decision amid building pressure

Brown told Football Insider on 10 March that Postecoglou has weeks to save his Tottenham job as his injured players are beginning to return to first-team action.

Now, the former scout who has worked closely with top-level managers throughout his career including the likes of Ron Atkinson and Sir Alex Ferguson, has insisted that Spurs are now in a difficult situation amid ongoing frustrations.

Having the fans turn on the players is a bad situation to be in,” he told Football Insider.

“It’s worrying when it seems like you no longer have the support of your fans, as a player and as a manager, because then the pressure builds even more.

“I don’t doubt it’s something Levy will be looking at, because there’s pressure on him too.

“The fans at Tottenham aren’t happy with the situation they’re in, and they’er making that known.

“Levy, as we’ve said before, has a track record of sacking the manager when the pressure starts to turn onto his position.

“He’s avoided doing that so far, but the worse that pressure gets, the more likely the decision is.

“It’s an uncomfortable position to be in, and the manager has to get the fans back on side if he wants to stay in that job for much longer.”

Tottenham face must-win European game as players and fans clash

Impatience and frustration from the crowd has not just had an impact on the manager’s future, but has also seen players respond to the criticism.

Following the 1-0 defeat to AZ Alkmaar last week, Guglielmo Vicario was among the players who clashed with fans as tempers boiled over.

However, Vicario sent a message to Tottenham fans following the draw against Bournemouth calling on them to give the squad their full support for the second leg against AZ.

The Europa League round of 16 clash has quickly become a must-win game for Spurs amid growing pressure on the players and manager from the fans.
