Football Insider verdict
The most intriguing aspect about the deal to sign Odsonne Edouard is how quickly it has been concluded. The Hoops, knowing that the had a deadline of Saturday to complete the deal before other teams could speak to Edouard, have decided to smash their transfer record out of the blue. Fans will be delighted, but it is an awful lot of money for a team in Scotland to spend on a player. There will be plenty of pressure on Edouard from now on, he will be expected to be one of the lynchpins of the team going forward. But he has already played in Scotland and excelled in big matches, such in two victories against Rangers. Perhaps if he hadn’t already spent a year on loan with the Hoops it would be a bigger gamble, but as he will be used to playing for Brendan Rodgers then he should hit the ground running next season. It does have to be said though, it is a lot of money, and only time will tell if this move was a mistake or a masterstroke.
