Anthony Gordon: Liverpool set sights on ‘huge’ deal, Newcastle would accept offer
Anthony Gordon has emerged among a number of targets for Liverpool as they step up efforts to replace Mohamed Salah in the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old has struggled with some inconsistent performances for both Newcastle and England this season, but remains highly-regarded at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s side have been long-term admirers of the winger, and may finally be tempted to step up their interest as Salah edges closer to a move away.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Gordon and remain keen to agree a deal with Newcastle.
This could see the winger follow his former teammate Alexander Isak to Anfield, although he is one of a number of targets as Liverpool step up their transfer plans.

Brown previously told Football Insider that Liverpool could accelerate a move for Gordon this summer and were impressed by his four-goal display against Qarabag.
There are doubts about the finances involved in any potential deal with Newcastle likely to demand a huge fee as they are reluctant to lose another key player.

After last summer’s massive window, Liverpool are expected to be more restricted in their spending, but they remain keen to agree terms over Gordon.
“It’s not exactly a well-kept secret that Liverpool are interested in Gordon,” Brown told Football Insider.
“After Salah has announced he’ll be leaving the club, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they finally made a move for him, but it won’t be an easy deal to do.
“He’s not had the best season, Gordon, it’s been a bit up and down and he’s gone through long spells without scoring a goal which will obviously be a worry.
“From a Newcastle point of view, it would take a huge fee for them to sell him because they don’t want to lose too many of their star players, but at the same time, they might be open to offers because of how inconsistent he’s been.
“But Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on his performances and they see him as one of their options to replace Salah.
“It’s something Liverpool could look to do because they are going to need to sign a new winger and he’s somebody they’ve been after for a while.”
How do Newcastle feel about selling Gordon?
Newcastle are reluctant to lose their key players this summer, but could struggle to keep hold of them if they do not qualify for a European competition.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider last month that Gordon is not happy at Newcastle and could be tempted away come the end of the season.

Liverpool are not the only interested club, with Arsenal also believed to be keeping a close eye on his performances and they aim to strengthen their attack.
Newcastle could be tempted to let the winger go for the right price if he is keen to move on and do not want a repeat of the Isak situation last year.
Liverpool are widely believed to be the favourites in the race having been long-term admirers, while Gordon has previously been interested in the move.
