Anthony Gordon: Newcastle’s updated stance on selling star man revealed
Newcastle United are now confident they can resist approaches for star man Anthony Gordon, sources have told Football Insider.
Liverpool launched an enquiry over a potential deal for the winger, 23, over the weekend as the Magpies flailed to meet the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
It is believed Newcastle were demanding a huge fee for Gordon, pricing Liverpool out of a move.
Eddie Howe’s side met PSR before the unofficial 30 June deadline, boosting their accounts through the reluctant sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson.
It is believed manager Howe and club chiefs were keen to keep both players but eventually resigned to cashing in to avoid losing a key member of the squad.

Alexander Isak was also the subject of interest in recent days, with Chelsea enquiring about the availability of the Sweden international.
But with the PSR issues resolved, sources say Howe is now looking to build around Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Gordon.
It is believed he will be given funds to improve his squad in the remainder of this window.

Gordon played for Liverpool as a child before leaving for rivals Everton – who sold him to Newcastle in January 2023.
He claimed the club’s Player of the Season award for the 2023-24 campaign after notching 12 goals and 11 assists.
